Certainly! Here are some dos and don’ts for PVC solvent cement welding:

Dos:

  1. Prepare the surfaces: Clean and dry the surfaces of the PVC pipes and fittings thoroughly before applying Plastochem PVC Solvent Cement. Use a clean cloth or sandpaper to remove any dirt, grease, or debris.
  2. Use primer if required: Some PVC pipes and fittings may require the use of a primer before applying the solvent cement. Use Plastochem P-24 Primer for better joint and long life.
  3. Apply solvent cement evenly: Use a brush or applicator to apply Plastochem PVC Solvent Cement evenly to both the outside of the pipe and the inside of the fitting socket. Ensure that the entire surface is coated with cement. Applicator is already available in our container.
  4. Insert the pipe fully: Insert the pipe into the fitting socket immediately after applying Plastochem PVC Solvent Cement. Twist the pipe 45-90 while inserting into the socket for better spreading of PV-85 PVC Solvent Cement on both the surfaces.
  5. Hold in place: Hold the pipe and fitting together firmly for a few seconds to allow the solvent cement to set. Avoid any other movement or twisting until the cement has fully cured. Wipe off the excess adhesive and allow it to dry.
  6. Allow proper curing time: Leave the joint untouched for 1 hour for perfect bonding of the pipe joints.
  7. Take safety precautions: Keep out of reach of children. • Do not take internally. • Keep away from heat, spark, open flame, other source of ignition. • Vapors may ignite explosively. • Use only in well ventilated area; if not well ventilated, use forced ventilation. • Avoid breathing vapors and avoid contact with skin and eyes. • Use skin and eye protection. • If inhaled, move into fresh air; if vomiting, call physician. • In case of eye or skin contact, flush with water for 15 mins. If swallowed, give 2 glasses of water.

Don’ts:

  1. Apply too much solvent cement: Avoid applying excessive Plastochem PVC Solvent Cement, as it can result in messy joints and weaken the bond between the pipe and fitting.
  2. Apply solvent cement in wet conditions: Solvent cement should be applied in dry conditions to ensure proper adhesion. Avoid using Plastochem PVC Solvent Cement in wet or humid environments.
  3. Mix different types of solvent cement: Use only Plastochem PVC Solvent Cement, which is designed for PVC pipes and fittings. Do not mix different types or brands of solvent cement, as they may not be compatible and could result in weak joints.
  4. Forget to protect surfaces: When working with Plastochem PVC Solvent Cement, protect surrounding surfaces from spills and drips by using a drop cloth or other protective covering.
  5. Disturb joints before curing: Once solvent cement has been applied and the pipe inserted into the fitting, avoid moving or disturbing the joint until the cement has fully cured.
  6. Ignore safety precautions: Never ignore the safety precaution, which is mention on the packaging.
