Plastochem UPVC solvent cement make strong bonding of upvc pipes and fittings in residential house and industrial projects. Here’s a general guide on how to use UPVC solvent cement:
- Preparation: Ensure the surfaces of joint are clean, dry, and free from any dirt, dust. Use a clean cloth to wipe the pipe surfaces.
- Cutting: Cut the UPVC pipes and fittings to the required lengths and shapes using a suitable cutting tool. Ensure the cuts are clean and square.
- Dry Fit: Before applying the solvent cement, dry fit the pipes and fittings together to ensure they align properly and there are no obstructions.
- Apply Solvent Cement: Once you’re satisfied with the dry fit, apply a full, even layer of cement on the pipe end up to socket depth, coat the fitting socket with a light layer (avoid excess and pudding). Use a suitable applicator at least ½ the size of pipe diameter, for larger size pipe system use a natural bristle brush or roller.
- Assembly: Assemble quickly while cement is wet. If not wet re-coat parts before assemly. Twist 1/8 to 1/4 turn until reaching pipe stop.
- Hold and Cure: To avoid pushout, hold for 10-30 seconds. Wipe off excess. Allow 10-15 mins. for good handling strength and 1 hr. cure time for cold water systems up to 160 psi and 6 hrs. for hot water systems (100 psi max, 180°F/82°C. For pipe 1 ½” or larger; higher pressure or temperatures below 60°F (16°C) allow longer cure time.
- Clean Excess Cement: Wipe off any excess solvent cement that may have squeezed out of the joint during assembly. Use a clean cloth or rag dampened with a suitable solvent for cleanup.
- Testing: After the curing period, test the joint for leaks by pressurizing the system with water or air, depending on the application. Inspect the joint for any signs of leaks and reapply solvent cement if necessary.
- Safety Precautions: Store between 40°F(5°C) and 90°F (33°C). Use Plastochem uPVC Cement only on uPVC pipe & fittings. Stir and use as is.
- Caution: Keep out of reach of children. Do not take internally. Keep away from heat, spark, open flame, other source of ignition. Vapors may ignite explosively. Use only in well ventilated area; if not well ventilated, use forced ventilation. Avoid breathing vapors and avoid contact with skin and eyes. Use skin and eye protection. If inhaled, move into fresh air; if vomiting, call physician. In case of eye or skin contact, flush with water for 15 mins. If swallowed, give 2 glasses of water.
