Description
Know How to Use uPVC Solvent Cement
Application Areas:
Plastochem UPVC Solvent Cement is formulated for use on all types of PVC piping systems. It is suitable for portable water pressure systems for both residential & commercial plumbing, irrigation, foam core, conduit, sewer and DVW systems. In accordance with ASTM D 2564 Standards. Recommended application temperature 40°F to 110°F/4°C to 43°C.
Application Method:
Stir or shake before use. Cut pipe square and deburr or bevel 10-150. Clean and dry jointing surfaces. Check dry fit, fitting should go over end of pipe easily but become tight about 1/3 to 2/3 of the way on. Use a suitable applicator at least ½ the size of the pipe diameter, for larger size pipe system use a natural bristle brush roller. Apply a full, even layer of cement on the pipe end up to socket depth, coat the fitting socket with the light layer (avoid excess and pudding). Cement should fill all gaps. Assemble quickly while cement is wet. If not wet, re-coat parts before assembly. Twist 1/8 to 1/4 turn until reaching pipe stop. To avoid push out, hold for 10 to 30 sec. Wipe off excess. Allow 15 minutes for good handling strength and 2 hours cure time at temperature above 60°F before pressure testing up to 180 psi. Longer cure time may be required at temperature below 60°F or with above 3” diameter. Do not test with compressed air or gas.
Storage & shelf life
Store in cool and dry place, preferably away from direct sun light. The material has a life of 2 year in tightly sealed containers in a proper storage container. Stability depends on evaporation of the solvent when the container is opened. Don’t add any thinner to change the viscosity of solvent cement, it may change its general properties. Store between 40°F(5°C) and 90°F(33°C).
Limitations & Precautions:
- Replace the cap immediately after use. Avoid using fingers for application.
- Wear safety glasses with side shields and wear rubber gloves.
- Flammable material. Keep away from naked flame and reach of children.
- Do not use in system using or being tested by compressed air.
